The Georgian opposition traverses new tariffs on garbage disposal in the court of Tbilisi
Municipal Council of Tbilisi has taken a decision of calculation of new tariffs on garbage disposal. Christian Democratic movement of Georgia traversed the decision of the Council in courts.
Beginning from August, 1, the consumers must pay 0,05 lari (5 tetri) for garbage disposal per 1 kilowatt/hour energy. The Christian Democrats appealed to the city court of Tbilisi demanding to cancel this enactment.
“It is an unlawful and illegitimate decision because it contradicts the law according to which payment for garbage disposal must not exceed 3 lari (about 1,8 dollars) per each person. This will cause negative moral and social response”, Georgy Akhvlediani, Chairman of the parliamentary faction of Christian Democrats, declared.
On August, 10, the court disallowed the oppositionists’ claim. Christian Democratic movement of Georgia intends to appeal against the verdict of the city court of Tbilisi, “Novosti-Georgia” reports.
On January, 1, a law “On local tallage” came into effect in Georgia according to which local authorities received the right to establish charge rate on garbage disposal on their own. According to the law, the fee for garbage disposal for physical persons must not exceed 3 lari. For juridical persons and organizations the charge rate must not exceed 25 lari (14 dollars) per one cubic meter of garbage, “Georgia-Online” reports.
