Over 120 thousand signatures in protection of hijab collected in Azerbaijan

During a campaign called “One-hundred-thousandth appeal to President of Azerbaijan” Center of Protection of Freedom of conscience and religion (DEVAMM) collected about 124 thousand signatures under a petition demanding to cancel the prohibition of wearing hijab in the schools of Azerbaijan.

The goal of the action is to express protest against prohibition of wearing hijab to the girls at schools of the country. The Center called for all the citizens irrespective of age, political views or confession to take part in the action.

Head of DEVAMM Ilgar Ibrahimoglu reported that the citizens turned to be more active than expected and the signature-gathering campaign was continued. The petition will be submitted to the respective state institutions, IA "Turan" reports.

“Our purpose is to display goodwill and solve the problem connected with religious creed once and forever”, “Salamnews” quotes Ibrahimoglu.

There have been cases in 25 schools of Baku when girls were not admitted to classes because of wearing hijabs, IA "Islamnews" reports.
