An action of protest against eviction of refugees passed off in Tbilisi

Replaced persons protested against their expected eviction from “Abkhazia” hotel in Tbilisi at an action in front of the Ministry of the Affairs of refugees.

Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that the refugees received a notice of eviction on August, 5, and the Ministry gave them a ten-days term. According to the refugees, about 300 families live in the hotel. The refugees asked for deferment of eviction, however, there were no positive changes for them.

“The people are not yet evicted and the object is already sold. They are being forced to go to Rustavi, to a dormitory adjacent to a colony where there are no conditions for living at all”, Georgy Tsagareishvili, Chairman of the party “Our Georgia – Free Democrats”, who came to the action to support the refugees declared. According to Tsagareishvili, eviction of the refugees is a cynical action typical of the present-day authorities.

The people who gathered in front of the office demanded a meeting with the Minister but with no result, “Novosti-Georgia” reports.

NGO “Association of Young Lawyers of Georgia” also appealed against eviction of the refugees demanding to hold up the process until an agreement with replaced persons is achieved. The day before the refugees supported by NGO submitted a statement to court demanding to prohibit eviction to the police until the final decision is taken.
