Seven activists of youth branch of ANC detained in Armenia
In the evening of August, 9, seven young activists of youth branch of Armenian National Congress (ANC) were detained in the center of Yerevan.
The reason for detention was their confrontation with law enforcement bodies.
The conflict was caused by ANC activists’ interference in a talk between the policemen and several young people from whom the policemen demanded documents. A scuffle occurred between the police officers and ANC young activists.
Seven activists: Saak Muradyan, Aper Gevorkyan, Artak Karapetyan, Tigran Arakelyan, David Kirimijyan, Vaagn Gevorkyan and Sargis Gevorkyan were brought to the police office of “Center” community of the capital.
According to Arman Musinyan, ANC Press secretary, the activists were delivered to the police station evidently beaten up. “There are wounds and bruises on the oppositional activists’ faces which testifies to beating “, attorney Stephan Voskanyan declared.
The officers of the police department of “Center” community, in their turn, explain the detention of ANC activists by their hooliganism and resistance to the policemen. It was also reported that one of the policemen got wounded as a result of the incident and was in hospital at the moment.
