Ombudsman of Georgia demanded providing the refugees with proper dwelling conditions
People’s Defender Georgi Tugushi in Georgia submitted his recommendations to Kobe Subeliani, Minister of Affairs of persons replaced from occupied territories, refugees and settlement, demanding to provide the refugees with proper dwelling conditions and inspect the objects which must be transferred to their possession.
Tugushi also demanded that the Ministry should carry out rehabilitation works at the objects which must be transferred to the refugees’ possession in the nearest future in extreme undertime and provide persons living in tumbledown buildings not fit for rehabilitation with alternative dwellings.
The People’s Defender demands from Subeliani to submit information to him whether the Ministry intends to transfer these objects to private property of the refugees living in the areas of compact settlement “Likani-2” and “Likani-3” in ten days term stipulated by clause 23 of the Georgian law “On People’s Defender”, “Georgia Online” reports.
In 2011 the Apparat of the People’s Defender carried out monitoring of objects of the refugees’ compact settlement all over Georgia and based on its results several tens objects in a very bad state were revealed.
According to the People’s Defender, people in these building live in extremely poor domestic conditions: roofs, sewage and water supply systems are damaged. Cases of dampness in the premises were registered. There are problems with water supply in part of these objects.
