United Nations Security Council included “The Caucasus Emirate” into the sanction list on Al-Qaeda

On July, 28, the UN Committee on sanctions concerning “Al-Qaeda” and physical and juridical persons connected with it adopted a decision of including “The Caucasus Emirate” into the sanction list. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its approval of this decision of UN Security Council.

In accordance with this resolution, the member sates of UNO must urgently enact sanction regime concerning “The Caucasus Emirate” which stipulates blocking financial assets belonging to this organization and ceasing any kind of assistance to it including stopping delivery of arms and economic resources”, RIA “Novosti” reports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation emphasized the significance of this decision. “We greet this step of UN Security Council as an act of support of Russia’s position in its struggle against terrorist forces acting in the region of Northern Caucasus by the World community, comprehension of the necessity of joint opposition to the threat of terrorism which recognizes no borders of ethnic groups”, the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation issued on August, 2, runs.

In July, 2010, the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton officially reckoned leader of “The Caucasus Emirate” Dokku Umarov among the group of persons considered as terrorists, those rendering assistance to terrorists or promoting acts of terror. Later the USA announced a reward of five million dollars for information of Dokku Umarov’s location. In March, 2011, UN Security Council entered Dokku Umarov in the list of dangerous terrorists.
