Four more oppositionists in Azerbaijan will be brought before the court

A preparatory session on the case of four oppositional activists made criminally liable for participation in an unauthorized meeting with the demand of democratic reforms on April, 2, in the capital of Azerbaijan is appointed on August, 12, in Sabaiil district court of Baku.

This is already the third group of oppositionists undergoing trials in connection with the events of April, 2.

Head of Central Apparat of “Musawat” party Arif Gajili, leader of “Musawat” youth organization Tural Abbsli, Manager of PR Department the party “People’s Front of Azerbaijan” (PPFA) Muhammed Mejidlu and Deputy Chairman of PPFA Fuad Gahramanli will face trial. They are accused according to clause 223 (organizing actions aimed at violation of public order or participation in them).

The persons under investigation are arrested with the exception of Gahramanli who is staying “under the police control” as a preventive punishment.

The persons under investigation do not consider themselves guilty and are sure that they were arrested for political reasons. Their defense will insist on dismissal of the criminal case.

However, Public prosecutor’s office of Baku considers that the defendants “committed illicit actions and inflicted damage on the citizens and the police”.
