A picket against launching a bulk terminal passed off in Tuapse

Activists of “Environmental Watch on North Caucasus” and “Committee of Protection of Tuapse” held one more picket against launching of a bulk terminal (TBT) of “Eurochim” company at the Black Sea coast in the town of Tuapse, Krasnodar district.

The participants of the action moved forward three major demands: holding a referendum in Tuapse about the presence of “Eurochim”, stop launch Tuapse bulk terminal (TBT) and fulfilment of the commission of the President of the country on necessity of discussing the question with the community by the management of “Eurochim” public corporation.

According to the organizers of the picket, leaflets were distributed during the action one of which showed a diagram of the number of oncological diseases in Krasnodar region received by regional Committee of public health in 2008. “One can clearly see from the diagram that Tuapse had occupied the first position in Krasnodar region by the number of oncological diseases yet before the beginning of building TBT”, the activists emphasize.

“A group of young people of athletic build who arrived from Sochi was standing side by side with the participants of the picket and then retreated” - “Environmental Watch on North Caucasus” reports. – On the whole the picket was a successful one”.

Representatives of Tuapse bulk terminal declared complete safety of TBT confirmed by many state and foreign expert opinions. Tours over the territory of the terminal for residents of the town and the region, representatives on non-governmental organizations, ecologicts and journalist have been regularly conducted lately.
