"Circassian Congress": Yaganov's beating aimed to stop his activities

The public organization "Circassian Congress" made a statement concerning the attack on Ibragim Yaganov, Chairman of the Public Movement "Khase" of Kabardino-Balkaria.

Authors of the statement believe that the incident is directly related to the social and political activities of Ibragim Yaganov, that is with the fact that the Public Movement "Khase", led by Ibragim Yaganov, was preparing a conference of political parties, representatives of major ethnic groups of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) "on the entire scope of critical issues on socio-political situation in the republic".

According to the "Circassian Congress", already earlier the measures aimed at disrupting the conference were undertaken. Among them there was an attempt of the legal prosecution against Ibragim Yaganov based on the fact of allegedly insult towards Faina Akhaeva, Secretary of the Chairperson of the Trade Union Republican Committee; and an article aimed at discrediting the personality of Ibragim Yaganov was posted on the Internet, the statement stressed.

"This is far from the first time in the republic, when public figures criticizing the policies of President of Kabardino-Balkaria Arsen Kanokov were exposed to severe beatings. To the point, it is an attempt to hinder the activities of civil society institutions in the particular subject of the Russian Federation – Kabardino-Balkaria, with all the ensuing consequences," the authors of the statement declare.
