Georgia: photographers accused of spying receive conditional sentences

Today, the alleged photographers-spies – Zurab Kurtsikidze, Irakli and Natela Gedenidze, and Georgi Abdaladze – were released in the courtroom. The Tbilisi City Court found them guilty, but appointed conditional imprisonment to them.

According to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the court appointed the following terms: to Georgi Abdaladze and Irakli Gedenidze – 3 years of conditional imprisonment each with a 4-year probation period; Zurab Kurtsikidze – 2 years with a 3-year probation period; Natela Gedenidze – six months of conditional imprisonment with a 1.5-year probation period. The sentences have come into force; it is final and not subject to appeal except those cases, when the convicts break the terms of their procedural agreements.

Judge Zviad Esebua has fully satisfied the demand of prosecutor Robert Grigalashvili.

All four photographers plead guilty at the trial and flatly denied any psychological and physical pressure on them.
