Murders committed on March 1, 2008, in Armenia must be solved, PACE co-rapporteur asserts

At a meeting with the leaders of the Special Investigatory Service of Armenia Axel Fischer, a co-rapporteur of the PACE Monitoring Committee, stressed the importance of creating an atmosphere of confidence around the investigation of events of March 1, 2008.

"An important role in the creation of such an atmosphere will play an investigation into the death circumstances of 10 victims in post-election events of March 1, 2008," Mr Fisher said.

Earlier, in her interview given to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, Natalia Martirosyan, Chairperson of the Armenian Committee of Helsinki Citizens Assembly, expressed the confidence that the central theme during Mr Fischer's meetings in Yerevan would become the investigation into the crime committed on March 1 and the fulfilment of Armenia's engagements before the Council of Europe.

During the meeting with members of the ruling coalition Axel Fischer praised the last steps of the Armenian authorities, in particular, the amnesty announced in late May and the finalized Electoral Code, said Naira Zograbyan, a representative of the "Prosperous Armenia", a member party of the ruling coalition.
