Georgia: rally in support of detained photographers held at German Embassy

The next action of solidarity with three arrested press photographers was held in Tbilisi. Its organizers, representatives of the media holding "Aliya", submitted an appeal to the German Ambassador to Georgia to exert influence on the Georgian authorities. Representatives of the opposition also participated in the event.

"Similar appeals will be handed in to all Embassies of European countries operating in the territory of Georgia and the US Embassy. We demand international attention to the case of journalists," said Zviad Koridze, the representative of the Charter of Journalistic Ethics.

Dozens of journalists, who were joined by representatives of several oppositional parties, took part in the action for support those arrested press photographers.

Furthermore, the organizers of the action were collecting signatures under request to release the arrested photographers on bail, which would be passed to the presidential administration, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the prosecutor's office and the court.

"We know these guys for a long time; we have been working with them for years. Scary photographs of the Five-Day War in August 2008 made by these three photographers went around the entire world. It cannot be true that they committed treason! It is not correct to accuse them of this. The case is classified as "secret", the society does not know the truth, no document proving their guilt has been published," journalist Lali Moroshkina said.
