Moscow hosts memorial party on Natalia Estemirova

On July 15 in Moscow in the second anniversary of the murder of human rights activist Natalia Estemirova, about 100 people gathered in the premises of the international NGO "Memorial" on the evening of her memory.

The memory evening gathered friends of Natalia Estemirova, people who knew her and those who did not know her personally.

European and Russian human rights activists, intellectuals, and journalists came to honour the memory of their colleague. Arseny Roginsky, Chairman of the Board of the international NGO "Memorial", chaired the evening.

The film "Who killed Natasha?" made by journalist Mylene Sauloy on the French TV's order, was screened at the memory evening. The film was also screened on July 14 in St Petersburg on the similar event.

Immediately after the film premiere Alexander Cherkasov told the participants of the memory evening how the investigation into the murder of Estemirova passes. He reminded that the "Novaya Gazeta" (New Newspaper) published the Report on independent investigation expressing doubts regarding the basic version of the investigation. The report was conducted by three organizations: the "Novaya Gazeta", the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and the Human Rights Centre "Memorial".

Svetlana Gannushkina, Chairman of the Committee "Civil Assistance", Board Member and the head of the network "Migration and Law" of the Human Rights Centre "Memorial", Elena Zags, Board Member of the HRC "Memorial", Elena Sannikova, writer, Yulia Klimova, Secretary of the HRC "Memorial" delivered speeches at the memory evening.
