Protest rally condemning violence against Muslims to be held in Dagestan

On July 15 in Khasavyurt District of Dagestan on the turn to the village Mutsalaul a protest rally against kidnapping, torture and murder of Muslims will be held, said Rasul Ismailov, a resident of Khasavyurt, the co-chair of the human rights organization "Civil Alternative".

"The event will be held under the slogan "Irresponsible power is a threat to the security of citizens and state"," said Rasul Ismailov.

The rally was caused by the murder of 40-year-old Nariman Aligadjiev, the father of four young children, an informal leader of Muslims of the village Uzun-Otar of Khasavyurt District.

"On July 7, in two days after the murder attempt on the life of Kumsiyat Nutsalova, the mistress of the shop in the village Toturbiykala, several localities, including village Uzun-Otar, were searched, several persons were detained. On that day Nariman Aligadjiev was in the mosque, which he with other Muslims built on his own land. The law enforcement agents surrounded the mosque and demanded Nariman to come out," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by the source, who preferred to stay anonymous.

"Nariman Aligadjiev said that he would not come out, because he had been already detained earlier, taken to the OVD (Interior Division), where he had been tortured and abused. Then the policemen opened fire for effect, threw grenades at the mosque. As a result, Nariman got wounds incompatible with life," he said.
Rasul Ismailov said that thousands of people from all Dagestan, who faced the arbitrariness of the law enforcement agencies, will come to the rally.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by the administration of the Khasavyurt District that they knew about the planned meeting. The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan reported that they had no information on the Aligadjiev's murder.
