Kabardino-Balkaria: protest against murder of local resident by power agents

Picket in protest against the killings without trial was carried out late in the night on July 6 in the city of Baksan of Kabardino-Balkaria by the relatives and neighbours of Zeushev, killed by the Beslan police, one of four perished during the past day and announced by the law enforcement agents as militants, reported an informed source, a resident of the city of Baksan.

The protesters blocked the bridge over the Baksan River and stayed there till midnight. The protesters, according to the source, demanded a meeting with Arsen Kanokov, the President of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR).

The source said that the relatives stated that Zeushev had been not involved to the activities of religious extremists and terrorists. He was an athlete in his past. Until now he was busy with the resale of cars.

When asked why Zeushev had not been taken alive, the source said that Zeushev had rendered armed resistance and made at least two shots.

"If Zeushev was not involved in the armed underground, he should just raise his hands and surrender," stressed the source and gave as an example the recent capture in the Elbrus District of Murat Bedjiev and Makhmud Tilov, when one of them, Bedjiev, was "detained literally at the crime scene".
