Azerbaijan: second judicial investigation on Jabbar Savalan's case
Judge Lyatifa Mamedova of the Sumgait Court of Appeal decided to hold new judicial investigation on the case of Jabbar Savalan, the activist of the "Popular Front Party" of Azerbaijan.
An appeal has been filed in connection with Jabbar Savalan's conviction on May 4 by the Sumgait City Court, which sentenced the activist to 2.5 years of imprisonment on charges of illegal storage of drugs. Jabbar Savalan was detained on February 5. According to the police, 0.17 grams of opium was confiscated away from the activist.
"The defences issued the petition for a new judicial investigation, since the rules of proceedings in the course of the preliminary investigation and considering the case at the court of first instance were violated," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by the lawyer Anar Gasimov.
The court granted the petition and appointed the process on July 14.
