In Azerbaijan, Court of Appeal upholds conviction of Bakhtiyar Gadjiev
Today, the Court of Appeal of the city of Gandzha, chaired by Judge Chingiz Mamedov, has completed consideration of the complaint lodged by activist Bakhtiyar Gadjiev.
His advocates petitioned for changing Gadjiev's custody for release on bail. Besides, the defence raised the issue of a repeated judicial investigation because of procedural violations during the investigation and hearings at the first instance.
However, the court rejected these petitions. In his turn, the public prosecutor asked the court to uphold the sentence without changes.
Gadjiev refused from his last plea, saying: "Today, the youth of Azerbaijan is tried here. The country that sentences its youth has no future."
His advocates intend to lodge an appeal to the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan.
