Terror act prevented in Kabardino-Balkaria could destroy ropeway, local authorities say

Should the terror act prevented in the village of Terskol happen, it could have destroyed the entire ropeway construction in the Azau Meadow and caused destructions to nearby buildings. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it by the administration of the village of Elbrus.

According to law enforcement bodies of Kabardino-Balkaria, on June 29 in the village Terskol, a plastic bag from sugar, containing an improvised explosive device (IED) with the estimated power of over ten kilos of TNT (trotyl) equivalent, was found under the first pillar of the ropeway in the Azau Meadow; the IED was hidden under stones and stuffed with striking elements in the form of bolts and nuts.

The bomb was moved to a safe location and liquidated there.

Let us remind you that on February 18 the ropeway Azau-Stary Krugozor on Mount Elbrus was blown up. About the same time, tourists were attacked on their way to Elbrus; three of them were shot dead. This was the main reason of introduction since February 20 of the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime in the Elbrus District and several other areas of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR).
