Armenian opposition gives two months to authorities to decide on early elections

Should the Armenian authorities fail to decide on early elections within the upcoming two months, the opposition will find the dialogue exhausted and move the resignation demand of President Serzh Sargsyan. This was announced today at a rally by Levon Ter-Petrosyan, the leader of the Armenian National Congress (ANC).

The oppositionists who spoke at the rally expressed their distrust to the authorities. The focus of Ter-Petrosyan's speech was on the dialogue that the ANC had offered to the authorities. According to his story, "in any normal democratic country early elections are a natural measure for overcoming a political crisis and finding the way out of the complex socio-economic situation."

"However, the Armenian authorities are afraid of early elections like of the plague. In recent days, different state officials used to repeat, like parrots, that there are no grounds for holding early elections, and that the massacre on March 1 is no ground. Same as rigged elections in February 2008, corruption, migration and rising prices are no grounds for early elections," said the head of the ANC.

After the end of the today's rally, its participants held a march along central streets of Yerevan. The next opposition rally is appointed for August 1.
