A father of two girls detained in Chechnya for suspicion of their murder

On June, 27, the personnel of law enforcement bodies of Chechnya detained a father of two girls, one of them underage, in Shelkovskoy district of the republic for suspicion of having committed a murder. The “Caucasian Knot” correspondent received this news from the republican law enforcement bodies.

The two sisters aged 15 and 19 were found killed in the courtyard of one of the private housing estates in the settlement of Borozdinovskaya, Shelkovskoy district of Chechnya. The investigation established that the girls were shot down from a Kalashnikov.

“The two killed girls’ father was detained for suspicion of this double murder. The motives of his crime are currently being investigated”, a representative of law enforcement bodies of Chechnya said.

Earlier, two versions of the accident were offered: murder of the girls by gunmen because of their refusal to become suicide bombers and a so-called “murder of honour”, i.e. mob law committed by their relatives.

“The detention of the two girls’ father most probably indicates that it might have been a so-called “murder of honour” although the investigation has not specified the reasons of the accident”, a police officer of Grozny considers.

A source in law enforcement bodies told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent that the majority of this sort of crimes remained undetected for “the relatives of girls and women killed for immoral conduct usually conceal the event and state that it was a sudden natural death or the victims left the republic for another domicile or went to see their relations”.

The Moslem and Chechen traditional law allows murder of women for extramarital affairs with men. Before that, according to the Moslem traditions, a woman who commits an adultery must be beaten up by stones.
