Chechnya: Petroleum College Director accused of bribery
The law enforcement authorities of Chechnya have instituted a criminal case against the director of the Petroleum College of the Grozny State Technical University, who is suspected of taking bribes.
According to the investigators, on June 23 the director of the college, while in office, received 58 thousand roubles from one of the students for having filled the grade in the student's record book without exams and tests. The bribe taker was detained barehanded by the officers of the Department for Combating Economic Crimes of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the republic, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by the source in the law enforcement authorities of Chechnya.
The director of the college was suspended from his duties and now he has to come up for trial.
"Receiving bribes from the students for the grading of non-passed examinations and tests and sale of the diplomas became commonplace in our country. Moreover, most people would be surprised should a head of an educational institution would not do that," believes one of the local observers.
