150 houses flooded in Leningor District of South Ossetia

The value of losses caused by high water to the Leningor District of South Ossetia has not been calculated in monetary terms yet; however, according to preliminary data, the damage caused to flooded houses will make at least six million roubles. This figure was announced by Alan Dzhussoev, the head of the Leningor District.

The flood in early June was caused by heavy rains, which overfilled the canal and smashed concrete barriers. Water went over the dam and flooded 150 houses in the villages of Ikota and Dolian.

Besides, the repeated mudslides in the area have partially flooded the structures of the unfinished water intake facility of the Leningor District in Ikota. "Streams of water have destroyed some structures of the intake. Water washed off building materials. The second flood happened about a week ago," said Dzhussoev.

Residents of the affected villages have already recovered from the flood and wait for help. "We have our basement flooded; we kept all our food stocks and household utensils there. There will be no harvest this year; water washed away the crops from the garden. A commission came and registered us as victims. I hope they'll help. People in the village say that they will reimburse what was flooded. Many residents here have water in their living rooms," said Amiran Kusraev from Ikota.

According to the source of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, many villagers try to fix their houses, shovel away mud, sand and debris brought in by water. They repair things if possible and put aside the damaged belongings, for the case the commission would like to see the evidences of the damage.
