The Labour party of Georgia demands Saakashvili’s resignation

Leader of the Labour party of Georgia Shalva Natelashvili called for the oppositional forces to sign a demand of resignation of Georgian President Michael Saakashvili.

The leader of Georgian Labourites announced the demand of impeachment to the President at a briefing in front of the presidential residence in Tbilisi on June, 23. He declared that the respective document would be sent to all the oppositional parties for signing. In his opinion, all the parties claiming to be considered oppositional ones must sign the document.

According to Natelashvili, this is the first attempt to integrate oppositional forces in achievement of common goal, i.e., removal Michael Saakashvili from power. “There has been no document like this in the political practice so far and we will see now who is just playing the role of an oppositionist and who really wishes to liberate the country from the dictator”, “Novosti-Georgia” quotes Natelashvili.
The document will become a watershed between good and evil, white and black, real and false opposition.

The document will be sent for singing to “The New Rights”, “Democratic movement United Georgia”, “Tetrebi” movement, “Fair Georgia”, “Ways of Georgia”, the National Forum, the Conservative party, the Republican party, “Kartuli Dasi”, “Christian-Democratic movement”, ”Free Democrats”, the “Georgian party” and “Free Georgia”, “Georgia Online” reports.

The position of the authorities concerning the oppositionists’ intentions is yet unknown, however, earlier Saakashvili repeatedly declared that he was not going to resign until his presidential term expiration, i.e. until 2013. He also rules out extraordinary election which is the opposition’s demand.
