An action of protest against increasing military presence of the Russian Federation in Abkhazia passed off in Georgia

The youth branch of the oppositional party “The New Rights” held an action of protest against increasing military presence of the Russian Federation in Abkhazia in front of the Russian Embassy in Tbilisi.

Earlier, an information appeared with a reference to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation about an agreement between Russia and Abkhazia on increasing the quantity of Russian servicemen up to 3500 people while today there are 1500 Russian servicemen there.

The participants of the action in front of the Russian Embassy were holding banners with slogans “Stop increase of Russian military presence in Abkhazia!”, “SOS: militarization and Russification of Abkhazia!”.

Representatives of youth branch of the oppositional party state that the process of Russification is going on in Abkhazia on a full scale and Russian military presence and its increase in the territory of the republic promotes it, “Novosti-Georgia” reports.

According to Beno Gegechkori, one of the leaders of “The New Rights”, the members are going to express their protest against increase of the quantity of Russian servicemen in Abkhazia continuously. “We demand solution of this question within the framework of international jurisdiction”, he said.
