About 20 people are wanted on charges of attack on Budyonnovsk in 1995
Law enforcement bodies and power agencies continue to search for members of Shamil Basaev's group who attacked Budyonnovsk, told Artem Melnikov, the head of the Department of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russia Federation in the North Caucasus Federal District, on June 22.
Let us remind that, according to the Department of the FSB (Federal Security Bureau) of the Russian Federation in the Stavropol territory, on June 14, 1995, a group of armed militants led by Shamil Basaev, consisting of 195 people, attacked Budyonnovsk. They took more than 1,500 hostages who were held for six days in the building of a local hospital without food or water. During the attack 129 people perished, including 18 militiamen and 17 military men, and 415 persons got gunshot wounds.
"Not all persons had been found, many of them were destroyed, many were convicted, but about 20 people are on the wanted list still," said Artem Melnikov.
According to him, the search for these persons was not conducted at all, or, if conducted, was carried out in an improper way, the "RIA Novosti" reports.
Mr Melnikov said that the other day one member of Basaev's group was found, who in 2007 obtained a passport from one of the units of the Federal Migration Service (FMS) in Grozny and "lived quietly in Chechnya," the newspaper "Kommersant" reports.
