Makhachkala welcomes Human Rights Film Festival "Stalker"

Socially-oriented films will be presented during the International Film Festival on Human Rights "Stalker", which started this evening in Makhachkala.

According to the "Caucasian Knot", the cinema "Pyramid" will show 8 films in total within Film Festival "Stalker". Entrance to the cinema will be free.

Igor Stepanov, the director of the House of Journalists, told about the history of the Film Festival "Stalker", which existed for 17 years already. The main festival is held in Moscow, and a grand jury works there. According to Stepanov, the main purpose of the festival is to show films to the possible widest range of people. "Films are shot, however, the audience cannot watch them," said Mr Stepanov, stressing that the festival "brought films on human rights protection" to the regions.

Mr Stepanov formulated another object of the festival: "change of people's attitude towards human rights protection". "The task of the feature and documentary films is how to solve the problem? These films are socially oriented," said the director and continued: "They show the life of refugees, show conflicts, problems – all that close to the residents of different regions. These films teach society to protect its rights more actively."
