The special operation in the South of Chechnya may last several months, members of power ministries state
A large-scale special operation against participants of armed underground which started on May, 20, in Vedeno district of Chechnya has not yielded any results yet, a source in the republican Ministry of Interior Affairs reports.
On June, 21, two officers of the Ministry of Interior Affairs were wounded in a skirmish with gunmen.
“The main task set by the authorities of the republic before the headquarters of the operation is total elimination of all the gunmen’s groups in the territory of the district”, an officer of law enforcement bodies of the republic says.
“The major problem today is to detect the gunmen. The relief is very complex in Vedeno district, it abounds in canyons, defilades and lush vegetation. It is as difficult to find a small group of gunmen here as to pick a needle out the haystack and gangsters today move in groups of three to five people, as a rule. Therefore the operation against the gunmen’s groups may last several weeks if not several months”, the source says.
