"Forum of People's Unity of Abkhazia" nominates presidential candidate

In Abkhazia, the oppositional Republican Party "Forum of National Unity of Abkhazia", headed by Raul Khadjimba declared an intention to nominate its presidential candidate. Nomination will take place at the next congress of the organization.

Sergey Bagapsh's sudden death on May 29 made Abkhazia face the process of new presidential elections. Khadjimba was the main Bagapsh's rival at the previous presidential elections in Abkhazia.

The ruling party "United Abkhazia" stated that "it would not nominate its presidential candidate" at the upcoming early presidential elections in August, however, it would support the candidate adhering in his programme the principles, on which President Sergei Bagapsh, the party leader, lived and worked.
