Residents of Temryuk District demand not to admit aggravation of ecological situation in the region
On June 12, the participants of the first ever in the Temryuk District of the Krasnodar Territory ecological rally demanded to suspend all the environmentally hazardous projects in the waters of the Azov and Black Seas, as well as complete ecological safety of all the production facilities planned for launching in the territory of the Taman Peninsula.
The action in the city-port of Temryuk on the Azov Sea, organized by the Association "Renaissance of Taman", which includes 24 NGOs, was the first ecological rally in the history of this small seaside town. The action brought together several dozens of people – ecologists, activists of political parties and NGO members.
The speakers at the rally voiced out their concern about the rapid conversion of once one of the most clean and environmentally-friendly regions of the Krasnodar Territory into an industrial and transportation zone with ruined nature and unfavourable habitat.
In particular, the rally expressed opposition to the construction of the petrochemical port "Taman", implementation of a large number of environmentally hazardous projects in the port of Temryuk, oil extraction in the wetlands "Kuban River Delta", protected under the Ramsar Convention, offshore oil transhipment in the Kerch Strait, and plans of reloading spent nuclear wastes through the Kavkaz Port.
