Rallies in support of hunger-striking Gimry villagers to be held in Dagestan
Tomorrow, on June 17, a number of dwelling settlements of Dagestan will hold rallies in support of the people who hold their hunger strike in the vicinity of the village of Gimry, Untsukul District, who demand to open an unobstructed motor traffic through the Gimry-Chirkata Tunnel.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Idris Zagalov, a resident of the Karata village of the Akhvakh District, that "his fellow-villagers went to the hunger-strikers and agreed that after the Friday prayers on June 17 the whole mountainous Dagestan, including our district, will hold solidarity rallies with the hunger-strikers with reiteration of the demand to open permanent motor traffic through the Gimry-Chirkata Tunnel. "My fellow-villagers fully support the hunger-strikers," said Zagalov.
Gadji Aliev, a resident of the village of Igali, Gumbetov District, said that his fellow-villagers were in solidarity with the hunger-strikers.
On June 16, a small tent camp appeared in the venue of the hunger strike.
Improvised rallies are held there, where people moved claims to republic's and district authorities. Soon, armed soldiers and law enforcers appeared near protesters; and ATCs (armoured troop carriers) with unjacketed machine guns were deployed there.
