Eduard Kokoity not to take part in presidential election in South Ossetia

The incumbent President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity has refused to run for the republic's presidency, irrespective of the decision to be passed on June 14 by the Supreme Court on the issue of a referendum on the third term. This was announced today by the press service of the President and Government of South Ossetia.

"Regardless of the decision to be make tomorrow by the Supreme Court on the issue of holding a referendum about the third presidential term in office, I won't take part in the election," said Eduard Kokoity, as quoted by the above press service and reported by the "Interfax" reports.

The initiative group of the referendum proposed two questions to be brought thereto: "1) Do you agree that Russian and Ossetian should be the official languages of the Republic of South Ossetia? and 2) Do you agree that one and the same person may hold presidency for three consecutive terms?"

Some political parties of South Ossetia did not support the idea of referendum.
