Yuri Budanov buried near Moscow

In the city of Khimki near Moscow the funeral took place of the former colonel Yuri Budanov, who was shot dead in Moscow on June 10. The ceremony passed without incident.

The former colonel, who fought in Chechnya and was sentenced on charges of murdering a Chechen girl Elza Kungaeva, was buried with military honours.

The ceremony was accompanied by a military orchestra; and when the coffin was lowered into the grave, a company of soldiers fired several shots into the air, the "ITAR-TASS" reports.

The funeral was attended by approximately 300-600 persons, including relatives and comrades-in-arms of the deceased and activists of nationalist movements, the "Interfax" reports.

Because of the funeral, the police reinforced security measures both near the temple and the central cemetery of Khimki, and in the city as a whole. Already at the entrance to the city, road police posts were deployed every other 50 meters, the "Echo Moskvy" Radio reports.
