Colonies of Krasnodar Territory to set up "Glasnost Rooms"

By this August all the penal colonies of the Krasnodar Territory will open special rooms, where prisoners will be able to express their complaints and wishes to prison bosses, said Yuri Kulik, the head of the Russian UFSIN for the region.

"Glasnost Rooms" are already functioning in three colonies of the territory; and there are 10 colonies in total. The rooms are located in general use areas - near prison canteens.

"A small room is equipped with a video camera; once the door is opened, the camera and the illumination are automatically switched on. You say whatever you want, and it is recorded for the head of the colony as a sort of appeal," the "Interfax" quotes Mr Kulik.

According to his story, now prisoners will not be held in large rooms, intended for 40-150, and even 300, persons. These large rooms will be converted into cells, were 2-6 persons will be kept. Cells will make one third of the entire prison; the remaining space will be occupied by auxiliary facilities. Every level of such unit will have a gym, an education room, where educators and psychologists will work with inmates, a room for colony personnel, a canteen and a drying room, the "Yuga.ru" writes.
