Tigran Postanjyan released in Armenia
On June 3, Tigran Postanjyan, brother of Zaruhi Postanjyan, deputy of the parliamentary faction of the "Heritage" Party, was released from custody under decision by the court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan.
By the decision of Judge Arthur Mkrtchyan, the amnesty, adopted by the Parliament of Armenia on May 26, 2011, was applied to Postanjyan.
Tigran Postanjyan was accused of unlawful re-obtaining remuneration of a public servant, who is not an official; however, members of the "Heritage" Party assert that, according to the amendments made on May 23 in the Armenian Criminal Code, the accusation was invalidated. According to Aik Alumyan, Tigran Postanjyan's advocate, on the basis of the above, for 10 days Postanjyan was illegally detained.
"I don't accept amnesty; and I'm ready to prove my innocence; but given the humiliating conditions of the prison "Nubarashen", I can't stay here any more, and I'm forced to accept amnesty," Tigran Postanjyan said in the courtroom.
