Oleg Orlov, Chairman of HRC "Memorial" reported that the assault took place in the riser block of flats where Khamroev lived. "It has evidently been an ambush, someone had been waiting for him", Orlov said adding that "the attackers splashed gas into Khamroev's eyes from a tear gas spray".

The extent of gravity of the injuries Khamroev got is still unknown, "Interfax" reports.

According to Alexander Cherkasov, representative of "Memorial", there were two attackers. Khamroev's colleagues are sure that the reason for the assault was his professional activities. The human rights activist protected the rights of migrants and national minorities, "Echo of Moscow" reports.

In December, 2010, Khamroev already underwent an assault and got a brain concussion. The human rights activist and his colleagues stated that Khamroev was then beaten up by an employee of law enforcement bodies.
