Nine persons detained at Russia-Armenia football match

On June 4, in St Petersburg, the Russian national football team beat their Armenian counterparts 3:1 in the qualifying round for Euro-2012. During the match, nine persons were detained.

As stated by the Chief Department of Russian MIA for St Petersburg and Leningrad Region, the majority of the detainees - five persons - were throwing fiery articles to the pitch.

Three more were detained for hooliganism; and one person was drunk, the "Fontanka.ru" reports.

At the same time, some sectors of the Petrovsky Stadium in St Petersburg were abandoned by the 60th minute of the match, the "Interfax" reports.

As a result of the match, Russia took the sole first place in Qualifying Group B with 13 points ahead of Ireland and Slovakia with 10 points and one game less each. Armenia with 8 points is in the fourth position.
