The court in Volgograd obliged Mayor's office to do away totally with waiting lists for kindergartens
According to the judgment of Central district court, Administration of Volgograd must provide additional places in kindergartens and totally eliminate the existing waiting list by September, 1, 2012.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that the problem of the lack of places in kindergartens of Volgograd region had repeatedly caused actions of protest. In May 30 women in Volgograd whose children were not accepted in kindergartens joined a three-days all-Russian hunger strike in protection of the children's right of free pre-school education. On April, 14, young mothers picketed the building of regional Administration demanding to eliminate the waiting list of many thousands children for accommodation in kindergartens and pay monthly allowances for children. On April, 30, they held another picket in Volgograd. A single mother from Volgograd Marina Ziuriaeva received a place in a kindergarten for her child with the help of a hunger strike.
Public prosecutor's office submitted a lawsuit to court. As a result of a supervisory inspection carried out by Public prosecutor's office of the Central district violations of the legislation on pre-school education were revealed.
According to the legislation in force, the state guarantees public accessibility of free pre-school education. However, the Administration had taken no sufficient measures to implement these legal regulations, the web-site of regional Public prosecutor's office reports.
According to the web-site V1, the waiting list for kindergartens in Volgograd includes 30 thousand children at the moment.
Municipal Administration disagreed with the judgment of Central district court and filed an appeal to regional court which brought a standing judgment without changes to the decision of the minor court.
