Ex-senator from Kalmykia Levon Chakhmakhchyan receives his CER
As reported by a source from the penitentiary system, the former senator (deputy of the Russian Council of the Federation) from Kalmykia Levon Chakhmakhchyan, sentenced in 2008 to 7.5 years in prison for an attempted fraud, has received his conditional early relief (CER).
Let us remind you that on July 17, 2008, the Moscow City Court sentenced Levon Chakhmakhchyan to 9 years of imprisonment in a minimum security penal colony. The court found him guilty of a theft by fraud of 1.5 million US dollars from the "Transaero" Airline. On November 20, 2008, the Russia's Supreme Court commuted the sentence by reducing his term to 7.5 years.
Chakhmakhchyan was released under CER back in January this year, but it became known only now. The former senator served his sentence in a colony in the Omsk Region, the Russian Agency of Legal and Judicial Information (RAPSI) reports.
