Officials of KBR to use public transport for a week

Starting from today, senior officials of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) are forbidden to use their service cars. Such order was issued by the head of the republic Arsen Kanokov with the aim to acquaint the top managers of Kabardino-Balkaria with the problems of public transport.

As explained by the press service of the head of the republic, the switch to public transport will be made by employees of the ministries and agencies of the KBR and the officials of the administration of Nalchik.

"Thus," the head of the republic believes, "the officials will know about the problems of public transport, which they never use in their current work, and try to solve them."

In order to bring officials closer to needs and aspirations of ordinary citizens, we also need to run polls of population in cities and districts of the KBR in order to identify the key issues that worry local residents, offered Arsen Kanokov.

"By the outcomes of such actions, the authorities should identify, say, ten major people's concerns and address them," said the head of the republic.

"I'd like to see how the order will be enforced," said Timur Tenov, associate professor of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University (KBSU) and head of the NGO named "Civil Union".

In his opinion, in order to know transport problems, there is no need to travel by public transport.

"Being a user of public transport, I'd not like all the bureaucrats to switchover to it - they'll just overload it, and nothing more."
