Chechen accused of terrorism faces trial in Denmark

The Municipal Court of Copenhagen has begun a trial of Lors Dukaev, a Chechen boxer-invalid, who is living in Belgium and accused of terrorism.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 10, 2010, in Denmark, after an explosion at a hotel in Copenhagen, the police detained a 24-year-old native of Chechnya. A map was found on him of Aarhus, the second largest Danish city, with a circled address of the newspaper "Jyllands-Posten", which published 12 caricatures about Prophet Muhammad in 2005.

The defendant denies charges of preparing a terror act and explains that he made a bomb in order to protect himself against his fellow Chechens, who had allegedly threatened him. However, according to experts, Lors Dukaev represents a new type of Islamic terrorists, who are acting autonomously.

"Al-Qaeda is no longer able to organize major attacks; and its only option is to involve immature young people, whose souls are full of hatred toward the West," said Hans Jorgen Bonnishen, the former head of the operative service of the Danish intelligence named PET.

The trial of Lors Dukaev will last until May 31. If he is convicted, he may be sentenced to life imprisonment, the Radio Liberty reports.

The RIA "Novosti" adds, with reference to the France Presse (AFP), that Dukaev pled guilty only of possession of explosives.
