American Circassians organized a flash-mob against Russian consulates
On May, 16, a video recorded by representatives of Circassian diaspora in the USA appeared on the Net. It demonstrated a flash-mob organized by American Circassians against Russian consulates in the USA. The flash-mob was called "May, 21 - a call for action. Where is Circassia?" and timed to an anniversary of the Russian-Caucasian war.
On the video one can see the participants calling to Russian consulates, in particular, the ones in Houston and New-York, inquiring how they could visit Circassia "whose capital is the city of Sochi".
The replies of the personnel of Russian diplomatic missions were like this: "You will need a Russian visa, Circassia is located near the Caucasus Mountains. But there is Chechnya nearby, so you will not be safe there". One of the officials of a consulate who received a call from a participant of the flesh-mob said that his maps were out of date.
The American Circassians were also asking what had happened to Circassia and getting a reply: "Everything is OK with it".
The video also reminds that the genocide of the Circassians has not been acknowledged and 147 years after the Russian-Caucasian war the Circassians are starting their protest against holding the Olympic Games in Sochi which they consider the capital of Circassia.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that "Adyge Khase", a Circassian organization in California, had appealed to State Duma suggesting interaction for solving the present-day problems of the Circassians together. "The essence of the Circassian problem is that the population of the world Circassian diaspora is on the threshold of a total loss of cultural, language and ethnic identity and the Circassians living in their motherland are experiencing constantly increasing pressure and disasters", representatives of the Circassian diaspora in the USA state.
