Residents of the settlement of Imishli in Azerbaijan went on a hunger strike

Several people in the district center of Imishli, Azerbaijan, started a hunger strike of protest stating that the money assigned by the state on aid to victims of the flood caused by overflow of the Kura and the Araz rivers were distributed unfairly or plundered. 

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that a strong flood took place in Azerbaijan in May and June, 2010. 30 thousand houses were damaged by the flood, thousands of families lost their households. In spite of complex measures taken for liquidation of aftermath of the disaster, local population still has problems.  

The hunger strike started on May, 10, and has lasted for already a week. The physicians stated a deterioration of health of Elmar Shahbazov, person of the first disability group, IA "Turan" reports. 

Mahbub Zulfugarli, correspondent of "Khurriyet" newspaper, who supported the hunger strike reported that the district administration never came to see the participants of the action. However, they were visited by Head doctor of the district hospital. 

Headquarters of "Kura" community called for the group of residents of the district center to stop the hunger strike. At the same time, the Headquarters sent a message to State Committee for liquidation of aftermath of the flood of the spring of 2010 reminding of the problem which made the people take these drastic measures.
