Police reinforces security measures in Manege Square in Moscow

Georgy Borovikov and Dmitry Demushkin, leaders of nationalists, were detained tonight in Manege Square in Moscow, where, according to law enforcers, a non-sanctioned action was planned.

Today in Manege Square security measures were stepped up in response to reports about nationalists' plans to hold an action. In total, about a dozen buses with OMON (riot police) fighters were present in the square; however, access there was not blocked.

By 7:00 p.m. members of the new nationalist organization "Russians", among them Dmitry Demushkin and Alexander Belov, had planned to come to Manege Square, as they themselves explained, "to hold a press conference," the "Interfax" reports.

As soon as Borovikov appeared, policemen came up to him and asked to present documents; he was detained for a check, as a policeman explained that they needed to verify whether he was on the wanted list.

Elena Denezhkina, a representative of the nationalists, told journalists in Manege Square that apart from Borovikov they also detained Dmitry Demushkin. Denezhkina herself was also invited, after her talk with reporters, to get into the bus for check of documents, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

"In connection with the soccer match between 'Spartak' Moscow and 'CSKA' Moscow, we'll continue being on duty until the end of the match and outflow of football fans from the stadium," said a source from the police.

According to his story, the action of nationalists, which they had planned to hold there, ended without beginning.
