Georgian Labourites protest against the nudist beach in Adzharia

The oppositional Georgian Labour party of Adzharia protests against possible opening of a nudist beach in Adzharia declaring its awareness of the respective plans of the authorities. The authorities of Adzharia state that the question has been discussed but deny the fact of having taken the decision.

"The Georgian authorities together with the Government of Adzharia have taken the decision of opening a nudist beach in Adzharia. According to the information in our disposal, the question has been ultimately decided", David Robakidze, leader of the Georgian Labour party in Batumi (Adzharia), declared.

Press service of the Government of the autonomous Republic of Adzharia confirmed that the question had been under discussion but did not specify at which level and emphasized that no decisions on the matter had been taken yet, "Novosti-Georgia" reports.

"According to the legislation of the country, this decision can be taken by the Georgian Parliament only", a representative of Press service said.

Chairman of Sakrebulo of Batumi Georgy Kirtadze also denies the information of the authorities' readiness to open such a beach, "Business Georgia" reports.

According to David Robakidze, the Labourites received the news that there were plans of opening of the nudist beach in the settlement of Makhinjauri. The so-called "Zeleny Mys" and Gonio are considered as possible variants of its location.

"Existence of such beaches in Georgia is inadmissible", Murman Dumbadze, ex-Chairman of Adzharian branch of the Republican party, declared.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported other measures taken by the Georgian authorities in order to develop tourism in Adzharia and make it as attractive for tourists as possible.

In particular, in October, 2010, the Parliament of Georgia passed a law "On free tourist zone of Kobuleti" which stipulates allotment of three land parcels for building 27 new hotels in the coastal strip and partially exempts capital investments into construction of the hotels in Kobuleti from taxes.

Earlier, in November, 2009, the Georgian Parliament cancelled annual tax collection from casinos in the hotels having over 100 rooms in Adzharia. In this way the authorities are trying to develop gambling business in the republic hoping to attract more tourists there with the help of it.
