Yerevan holds torchlight march in memory of victims of Armenian Genocide

A torchlight march dedicated to the 96th anniversary of the 1915 Armenian Genocide was held in Yerevan today. This year saw coincidence of two important dates for Armenia - the Easter and the Remembrance Day of Armenian Genocide.

The World Council of Churches had called all the churches, including the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), to mark on April 24 - together with the Easter - the Remembrance Day of the Armenian Genocide.

The actions in memory of genocide victims have started today. Around 10,000 protesters started their march from the centre of Yerevan to the Memorial of Genocide Victims. Prior to start their march, the protesters set a Turkish flag on fire, and then lit their torches from it.

Torchlight marches are held in Armenia every year since 2000. This year, members of national minorities living in Armenia are officially taking part in the march.
