In 2010 against 2009, number of appeals to Children's Ombudsperson of Rostov Region increased by quarter

In 2010, the number of complaints addressed to the Children's Ombudsperson of the Rostov Region made 1052, or a 27-percent increase over the level of the previous two years: 769 complaints in 2009 and 749 in 2008. In 2010, practically all violations of minors' rights were remedied, the Ombudsperson's office reports.

The nature and reasons for appeals and complaints were as follows: 239 applications (22.7 percent) on violation of housing rights; 221 (21.0 percent) - violations of the legislation on family relations; 96 (9.1 percent) - protection of rights orphans and children left without parental care and persons equated to parents; 95 (9 percent) - legality in activities of education culture and sports bodies and services (including violence against children in all types of educational establishments) and others.

In 2010, people turned to the Children's Ombudsperson of the Rostov Region not only on the problems of housing rights of orphans and children left without parental care, but also in connection with past years' violations of housing rights of adult citizens belonging to these categories.

"This is due to the fact that the region is actively addressing the problem of providing housing to orphans and children left without parental care. Positive results promote actions of the young adults whose privileged housing rights had not been enforced for whatever reason in previous years," said an employee of the Ombudsperson's office.

According to her story, now 1840 orphans and children left without parental care are on the housing waiting list, while in early 2010 there were 200 less of them.
