Dagestan: at trial on teenager's beating his mother fainted
Today, at a regular session of the Shamil District Court in Dagestan on beating of a 14-year-old boy by militiamen, Aishat Akhmedova, victim's mother, suffered an epileptic fit. The woman fell to the floor in the course of interrogation. Doctors of the ambulance that came after a while rendered help and eliminated the fit.
According to advocate Aziz Kurbanov, at today's session the witnesses of the prosecution were questioned. One of them, Captain Akhmedov from the road police, confirmed that when he saw the boy at the police station, the teenager looked as "torn in pieces."
"Akhmedova was mostly surprised with the kid's haircut - his hair cut out in tufts. This is the only fact not denied by the district militiaman Magomed Magomedov, who is accused of harassing the teenager. But he told the court that he had done the haircut with the boy's consent, which caused laughter in the courtroom," Aziz Kurbanov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
As stated by Svetlana Isaeva, head of the organization "Mothers of Dagestan" the victim's family now has two disabled persons - the mother and her son. "After he was beaten by the MIA employees, who now face the trial, the boy became deaf in one ear; he constantly complains of headaches," said Isaeva.
"The most striking thing is that the defendants deny their guilt, insisting that they had nothing to do with beating the boy. If we follow their logic, the boy had mutilated himself," said Svetlana Isaeva.
The next court session will take place on Friday, May 6.
