Speaker of Armenian Parliament asks President to pardon Mikaelyan

On April 29, Chairman (Speaker) of the National Assembly of Armenia Ovik Abramyan addressed President Serzh Sargsyan asking him to pardon Sasun Mikaelyan, an opposition activist and a veteran of the Karabakh War.

"Highly esteemed Mr President, by acceding to the proposal of political forces of the parliamentary coalition, and being concerned about the health of our former colleague Sasun Mikaelyan, I hereby ask you to consider the issue of pardoning him," says the letter, disseminated by the press service of the parliament.

Sasun Mikaelyan was arrested and convicted on charges of organizing mass disorders on March 1, 2008, in Yerevan and illegal arms possession. He has already suffered several complex surgeries of his respiratory system.

Currently, Sasun Mikaelyan's health condition causes doctors' concern.
