IFSR called for Obama to demand release of Azerbaijani journalist Fatullaev

Azerbaijani Institute of Freedom and Safety of Reporters (IFSR) wrote a letter to President of the USA Barack Obama asking him to mention the name of convicted journalist Einullah Fatullaev in the speech of Head of the USA devoted to World Press Day.

"Fatullaev has been kept in prison for already four years and the authorities refuse to release him in spite of two judgments of the European Court of Human Rights" Emin Guseinov, Director of IFSR, reported in the message.

During these four years "the journalist and the members of his family have experienced various forms of psychologic and physical pressure and Fatullaev's life and heath are still in danger", Guseinov remarked. For these reasons IFSR appeals to the President of the USA to demand immediate release of journalist Fatullaev.

At the same time, Fatullaev's attorneys submitted one more claim concerning violation of their client's rights to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

A message of the Institute of Media Right (IMR) coordinating defense of the journalist's rights received by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent runs that the attorneys contest the lawfulness of the decision of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan dated November, 11, 2010, on execution of the verdict of ECHR of April, 22, the same year. The attorneys consider that the Plenum has executed the decision of the European Court only in part by not having released the journalist from custody.

The claim contains a request to acknowledge violation of Fatullaev's rights of free expression of opinion, fair trial, freedom and personal immunity, compensation for judicial error and inflicted damage, inadmissibility of repeated punishment for one and same action.
