Tikhoretsk

City in Krasnodar kray (region), kray subordination, rayon (sector) centre, 136 km north-east of Krasnodar. Located in the Kuban-Priazov Lowlands. A large railway junction at the crossroads of the Rostov-on-Don - Baku and the Volgograd - Novorossiysk lines. A highway (Rostov-on-Don - Mineralny Vody). Population (1992 est.) 68.1 thousand, (1939 est.) 37 thousand, (1959 est.) 50 thousand, (1970 est.) 60 thousand, (1979 est.) 64 thousand.

At the end of the 19th century, the stanitsa (Cossack village) of Tikhoretskaya had more than 5 thousand people living there.
